Miranda hurried along the graceful halls of Hogwarts School, distraught and upset. She was late for Transfiguration, her favorite class.
She took a wild turn, galumphing up the ever-changing marble staircase (remembering to skip the trap step, of course) and then found herself facing a handsome door, fashioned of what appeared to be oak.
Locked.
Without thinking twice, Miranda whipped out her popular wand and aimed it at the keyhole. "Alohomora," She muttered.
A faint click, and then Miranda pressed open the door.
As soon as she stepped within, the door slammed closed behind her. A chill slithered down the length of her spine, and her body suddenly felt eerily cold, as if it was encased in ice. Her temples were throbbing with pain.
A premonition. She had them before. Even for a witch, Miranda often expirenced strange things that issued her brief glimpses of the future. She was getting a definate bad vibe from this place--she could feel it, as it her very blood itself was screaming in her veins. She wanted out.
Miranda gripped her wand and tried the door. Ithad relocked itself. She automatically tried Alohomora, but it didn't budge.
Ambitious. Cunning. Prideful. Yeah... That sounds about right.

Half an hour earlier, Kitsune had been lying in bed, contemplating the ceiling and waiting for either sleep or daybreak to arrive. Considering his track record with achieving unconsciousness and overtaken with complete and utter boredom around two or three he'd risen from his bed and shuffled off to amuse himself by playing hide and seek with Filch and Mrs Norris.
But even the amusement of that waned, and he found himself skulking down the Forbiddon Corridor in the wee hours of the morning. Coming to a door that interested him, he opened it and stepped inside. Pulling it closed behind him, he turned and ran smack into the girl standing just inside, sending both of them over onto the floor.
Gasping with pain from contacting with the stone floor (poor fragile little evil one...) he propped himself up on one elbow and glared furiously at the girl -- whom he was lying on top of, incidentally. "What the hell are you doing?" he hissed, conveniently forgetting that he'd been the one to run into her, not the other way round.

Numb with shock, Miranda remained slumped in her spot for a fraction of a second, before getting back to her feet and smoothing her rumpled uniform.
"A question better asked me to you," She sneered. Miranda could already begin to feel hatred boil inside towards this boy.
"How'd you get in here?" She snapped suddenly. The pain in her temples was increasingly rapidly now, getting unbearable, and he was only making it worse.
Odd as it may seem, the feeling he seemed to transmit to her was an awkward kind of choppy board. It was hard to describe. Whatever he was, he wasn't evil though that was just what it seemed.
Ambitious. Cunning. Prideful. Yeah... That sounds about right.

Kitsune glared up at her from the floor, gray eyes narrow and cold. For a long moment he contemplated hexing her into next week, but that would have required more effort than the sleepy Slytherin wished to expend. Instead he smiled, not an entirely pleasent manner, but a smile nontheless.
"You have a point," he said lazily, grabbing hold of the door handle and pulling himself upright. "And I got in through the door. Perhaps you've heard of them before. Generally thay're slabs of wood held to the wall with hinges and used to block off places. When one turns the handle and steps through, one enters another room. Understand? Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to bed."
Of course, when he tried to turn the handle, it refused to budge. Kitsu sighed, letting his skeletal fingertips slide off the handle and fall back to his side. Staring blankly down at the floor he ran over the rest of his lecture on the nature of doors in his mind: And sometimes, idiotic people lock doors to try and preserve the secret of what lies on the other side. And also, really idiotic people occasionally lock themselves in.

"Great." Miranda said loudly, before sagging onto a box labeled Magical Mess Remover. She inhaled deeply and studied the situation, her quick-thinking mind already flipping through outlandish possibilities. She knew that there was nothing she could do to reopen the door until it felt so, and so she was, empathedic as it sounded, stuck.
She inhaled deeply again and thought about Quidditch.
Ambitious. Cunning. Prideful. Yeah... That sounds about right.

"Defeatist," Kitsu said pithily, running his hands over the edges of the doorframe a few times. He could practically feel the magic humming under his fingertips, warm and utterly unyeilding. Taking a step backwards, he tilted his head to examine the top of the doorframe. There was a string of words cut into the wood, written in a language he'd never seen before. Not that that was surprising -- Kitsu really truly didn't give one toss about anything that wouldn't help him get ahead in life, and there wasn't much benefit for him in learning another alphabet.
Up until now, that is. He resolved that as soon as he got out of here, he was going to find out absolutely everything he could about whatever the hell that was.
He tore his eyes away from the oddly shaped letters, turned around and snapped, "Any idea what that is? It might help us get out. And I'm not so sure about you, but I have no particular desire to spend the remainder of the evening trapped in a dark room with a godforsaken Gryffindor."
A little abrupt perhaps, but it hadn't been a good day and he did have a reputation to preserve after all.

Miranda flinched slightly and got up. Although she was quite tall for her age, she was at least a head shorter than the sixth year.
"Really now? I could say the same thing about a 'Godforsaken Slytherin'" She imitated his vocie almost perfectly.
"And for your information, I don't happen to be taking Ancient Runes at the moment, so it would just be best if you'd--" Miranda paused in midsentence.
Her gaze had wandered up to the markings above the sealed door. The markings...looked so familiar. She wasn't quite sure just what it was about them...but he recongized. She didn't know from where, or why. All she knew was that it was easily the creepiest feeling she had felt for quite some time.
Ambitious. Cunning. Prideful. Yeah... That sounds about right.

"Judging by the sudden lack of pointless babbling, I'd imagine you have some notion of what it says," Kitsu said in a horrible cheerful, patient kind of voice.
He perched on the box she'd just vacated and smiled, waving one hand about in a disturbing sort of way. "Please. Enlighten me."
After a few moments of utter silence, though, he got sick of waiting for an answer and stood once more. He wandered back up to the Gryffindor and tapped her on the shoulder. "Hello? Is there anything going on in there? Or is it as blank as can be expected for a Gyffindor?"
